Heinrich Ewers (painter)
August Heinrich Ewers , also Heinz Ewers (born November 20, 1817 in Wismar , † March 13, 1885 in Düsseldorf ), was a German painter of the Düsseldorf School .
Life
In 1836 Ewers began to study sculpture at the Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin . At the same time he worked as a furniture draftsman, he also designed fabric samples and wallpaper. In Düsseldorf he established himself as a painter. There he had been a member of the Malkasten artists' association since 1861 and was one of the close circle of friends of the history and genre painter Hermann Becker . Around 1864 Ewers met Maria from Weerth . In 1869 they married and moved into the house at Immermannstrasse 22. In 1871 their son Hanns Heinz Ewers was born, later a famous writer of Fantastik , in 1873 the son Ernst Gustav , later Rear Admiral of the Provisional Imperial Navy . Friedrich Franz II. , The Grand Duke of Mecklenburg - Schwerin , appointed Ewers as his court painter .
