Heinrich Hagemeister

Heinrich Hagemeister (* 1549 in Stralsund ; † September 13, 1616 there ) was the mayor of Stralsund .

The son of Matthias Hagemeister (1520–1587), a member of the council in Stralsund, and Gesa Swart (1522–1587) became councilor himself in 1588. In the first two decades of the 17th century, Duke Philipp Julius von Pommern-Wolgast attempted to intervene in urban independence and also exerted military pressure. After the city had sued the duke before the Reich Chamber of Commerce, the latter suspended the incumbent mayors Heinrich Buchow and Bertram Hoyer and instead appointed Heinrich Hagemeister and Thomas Brandenburg as new mayors. Under Hagemeister, the city signed a contract of inheritance with the duke on July 11, 1615, in which Stralsund had to recognize the duke as "heir" and as "God decreed authority". On February 14, 1616, Hagemeister concluded, at the Duke's instigation, a civil contract "to prevent a worrying tumult and blood bath" between the council and the citizens.

Heinrich Hagemeister owned land in Damitz , Krönnevitz , Groß and Klein Parow , Martensdorf and Brandshagen . He was a wealthy man who gave large sums to pious foundations.

He was married twice and had six sons and five daughters. His granddaughter Anna Marie Hagemeister (1648–1700) married the general superintendent Augustinus Balthasar in 1672 .
