Heinrich Janke (born July 4, 1930 in Graudenz , West Prussia ) is a German designer and sculptor .

Life

Heinrich Janke grew up in Graudenz in West Prussia and attended the local elementary school . In December 1944, fled the family to Celle , where he continued his schooling at the secondary school continued and in 1947 with the GCSE ended. After a carpenter apprenticeship and a few other stations came Janke to Hanover, where he attended the University of Applied Sciences , a study of sculpture and design resumed. After his state examination, he became a master student under Hermann Scheuertstuhl and also gained experience in the studio of the Düsseldorf sculptor Ewald Mataré , which shaped him so deeply that he can still be called a "Mataré student" today. After 1949 he came into contact with another well-known Mataré student, the sculptor Joseph Beuys .

In 1954, Janke joined the Wetzlar- based optics company Ernst Leitz as a designer, where he became head designer. At the same time he taught art and design for 14 years at the adult education center and 6 years at the Goetheschule in Wetzlar, the latter also on behalf of his company. In 1964 he was one of the founding members of the Wetzlarer Kunstverein.

After his retirement in 1989, Janke devoted himself intensively to his various interests, which also included archeology; he had meanwhile become a volunteer district monument curator for the Lahn-Dill district . Which range includes his activities here, evidenced by the fact that he as that of a student - Association of Bad Homburg carried out research into a medieval race furnace anleitete in Weilburg, but also the famous replica of the equestrian statue of Augustus on the Roman Forum in Waldgirmes created. In the artistic field he made several exhibitions.

In 1986 Heinrich Janke received the Letter of Honor from the State of Hesse for his diverse activities . In 2001, Federal President Johannes Rau awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and in 2007 he was awarded the "Honorary Award for Exemplary Commitment in Monument Preservation" by the State Office for Monument Preservation Hesse .

Heinrich Janke is married and has one daughter.
