Heinrich Kampschulte

Heinrich Johann Kampschulte (born March 28, 1823 in Wickede (Ruhr) , † April 30, 1878 in Höxter ) was a German Roman Catholic priest, center party politician and historian .

Life

Kampschulte attended high school in Paderborn and then studied theology in Münster . He was ordained a priest in 1846. At first he worked as a chaplain for the Fürstenberg family at Körtlinghausen Castle near Warstein . He then became a chaplain in Brilon and also taught at the Petrinum grammar school there . Some time later he became vicar in Geseke and in 1855 pastor of Brilon . In 1860 he moved to Höxter as dean .

Even before the actual beginning of the Kulturkampf , Kampschulte turned to political Catholicism. In 1871 he was one of the first to sign the appeal to found the Center Party in Soest . For this party he was from 1870 to 1873 for the constituency Arnsberg 7 (Lippstadt - Arnsberg - Brilon) member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

But Kampschulte is particularly important as a church historian with a focus on the Westphalian region. In addition, he published religious works and translated the writing of Blaise Pascal Religious Thoughts (1861).

The historian Franz Wilhelm Kampschulte was his brother.
