Heinrich Klein (politician)

Heinrich Klein (born December 13, 1932 in Hergershausen , † December 18, 1989 in Groß-Umstadt ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Klein completed an apprenticeship at the Deutsche Bundespost from 1951 and then worked there as an administrative clerk. In 1957/58 he trained at the Academy of Labor and worked from 1958 to 1962 as editor of a monthly political magazine and as head of the press office of the SPD Hessen- Süd. From 1963 to 1970 he worked as an editor at the Institute for Applied Social Science in Bonn .

Political party

Heinrich Klein had been a member of the SPD since 1950 and long-standing chairman of the SPD local association Groß-Umstadt.

MP

Klein was a member of the Dieburg district council from 1960 to 1970 , where he was elected chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in 1964. From 1977 to 1985 he was a member of the district council of Darmstadt-Dieburg and was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1970 until his resignation on December 21, 1970 . This happened because the then district administrator of the Dieburg Pfeiffer district had a fatal accident and Klein was his successor.

In the federal election in 1976 Heinrich Klein was elected as a direct candidate in the German Bundestag , of which he belonged until his death. Here he has been chairman of the sports committee since 1982. In parliament he represented from 1976 to 1983 the Bundestag constituency Odenwald . From 1983 to 1989 he was drafted into the Bundestag via the state list of the SPD Hessen.

Public offices

Klein served as district administrator for the Dieburg district from 1970 to 1976 . During his tenure, he initiated a large school building program that caused a sensation throughout Hesse. In 1984 he was a member of the 8th and in 1989 the 9th Federal Assembly .

Honors

The city of Groß-Umstadt honored him with the naming of the modern city sports hall as Heinrich-Klein-Halle near Darmstadt Castle , which seats up to 1200 spectators and is home to the Bundesliga handball club MSG Groß-Umstadt . A small square is named after him in his home village.
