Heinrich Knote
Heinrich Knote (born November 26, 1870 in Munich , † January 12, 1953 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Germany) was a German opera singer (tenor). He was also a royal Bavarian chamber singer and Richard Wagner - hero tenor .
Life
Knote made his debut as a singer in Munich in 1892 , after which he soon developed into a Wagner tenor. From 1904 to 1908 he gave guest appearances in London and was also a member of the Metropolitan Opera in New York . At that time he was considered a great rival to Enrico Caruso .
Heinrich Knote ended his career in Munich in 1931 . Knote is still regarded today as one of the best German hero tenors, especially with regard to his parade roles as Siegfried and Tannhauser . A portrait hangs in his honor in the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
Knote was married to the singer Katharina Feilner (1881-1968) for the second time. She was a daughter of the photographer Jean Baptiste Feilner . Knote rests in the cemetery in Feldafing . Knotestrasse was named after him in 1945 in Munich- Solln .
