Heinrich / Henrik Rantzau the Younger (born January 26, 1599 - † January 16, 1674 ), grandson of the Danish governor Heinrich Rantzau in Schleswig-Holstein , son of Frantz Rantzau auf Schönweide (1555-1612), the founder of the Danish branch of the family , was best known for his trip to the Orient.

Life

He embarked on February 7, 1623 in Venice , traveled along the coast of Greece and through the archipelagos to Cyprus and landed in Akko . From April 8th to 20th he was in Jerusalem , where he celebrated Easter and made the usual pilgrimages. From Jaffa he went to Egypt , where he visited Cairo from May 8th to 28th, the pyramids of Giza , etc., and on from Alexandria to Constantinople , which he visited on July 25th. reached.

After a long stay there, he started his return journey on September 18, initially via Adrianople , Philippopel , Sofia , Belgrade , Bosna Sarai , Spalato and then on the Adriatic Sea to Venice.
