Heinrich Stollhof (born March 28, 1878 in Kirchheimbolanden ; † March 24, 1956 in Edenkoben ) was a priest and clergyman in the Diocese of Speyer , a military pastor in Saarburg (Lorraine) and a naval pastor in the Imperial High Seas Fleet in Kiel .

Life

Heinrich Stollhof was born in Kirchheimbolanden, Pfalz , then Kingdom of Bavaria . During his studies he became a member of the KDStV Tuisconia Munich in 1897 in the CV . He was ordained a priest on August 17, 1902 in Speyer Cathedral by Bishop Joseph Georg von Ehrler .

From 1902 to 1909 the young priest worked as a chaplain in his home diocese in Edesheim and Kaiserslautern . Then he applied for a position as a military chaplain and received his appointment as pastor in the 30th Army Division on December 1, 1909 , based in Saarburg (Lorraine) . On June 1, 1911, Heinrich Stollhof moved to the Navy in Kiel, where he officiated as a naval priest at the High Seas Forces staff, at the same time as pastor of the Second Squadron (with the ships SMS Preußen (flagship), SMS Germany , SMS Hannover , SMS Pommern , SMS Schleswig-Holstein , SMS Schlesien and SMS Hessen ), then the III. Geschwaders (with the ships SMS Prinzregent Luitpold (flagship), SMS Kaiser , SMS Kaiserin , SMS König Albert , SMS König and SMS Großer Kurfürst ). In this capacity he took an active part in the First World War, where he participated in several sea battles on board. The clergyman received the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class. From the end of the war until 1920, Stollhof was in the pastoral care of the Baltic Sea Mine Detection Association.

On October 15, 1920 Heinrich Stollhof resigned from his home diocese and became a pastor in Rohrbach . On May 16, 1925, he took over the parish of Pirmasens , St. Pirmin and on May 1, 1936, he went to Edenkoben in the Upper Palatinate as a pastor . He stayed here for almost 20 years as a pastor, until his death in March 1956. The Speyer bishop had given him the honorary title of “ clergyman ”; According to Nekrolog, Stollhof died after a short illness and a stay in the clinic for several days. The funeral took place on March 27th in the Edenkoben cemetery; Bishop Isidor Markus Emanuel personally, four Speyer canons and around 120 priests took part, which suggests that the deceased was very popular.

The obituary in the diocese gazette The pilgrim characterizes his personality as follows:

“Conscientious fulfillment of duty and deep personal piety were the hallmarks of the deceased, even though a sometimes rough shell may have concealed this inner core. Social agility was combined with a pure, upright character, straight thinking, an intrepid and masculine demeanor. He overcame the hardship of life with his inexhaustible sense of humor, which he retained into old age. Intellectually very interested, he liked to devote himself to his books, was very well read and knew very well about many individual questions. His parishioners particularly valued him as a good preacher. "
