from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry VI. Reuss, Count and Lord of Plauen and Köstritz (born July 1, 1707 in Dittersbach , Sagan municipality ; † May 17, 1783 in Köstritz ) was a German nobleman in Danish and Prussian services. The older branch of Count Reuss zu Köstritz goes back to him.

Life

Henry VI. was the second son of Heinrich XXIV. (Reuss-Köstritz) and his wife Eleonore (1688–1776), born. Baroness of Promnitz -Dittersbach. Henry IX. Reuss zu Köstritz was his younger brother.

Along with Rochus Friedrich zu Lynar (1708-1781) , who had been brought up with him, he studied from 1726 jurisprudence at the University of Jena , where he in 1729 a disputation defended, and at the University of Halle . At the end of his studies he went on a grand tour to Holland, England and France.

In 1732 he went to Denmark and found a job at the German Chancellery in Copenhagen . In 1742 he was appointed by King Christian VI. (Denmark and Norway) as mayor of Kristiansand and bailiff of Nedenæs (today Aust-Agder ). In 1746 he moved to Sorø as bailiff of Sorø Amt and chief steward of the re-established Sorø Akademi . At the opening ceremony on July 26, 1747, he gave a much-noticed speech in Danish. In 1748 the Ringsted Amt was incorporated into the Amt Sorø. In 1754 he became bailiff of Sønderborg Amt .

In 1765 he left Denmark, probably in connection with the difficulties of the moor colonization project and the impeachment of his brother-in-law Rochus Friedrich zu Lynar, and entered the Prussian service as Minister of State and Chamberlain.

Since the death of his father in 1748 he was the second paraglider from Reuss zu Köstritz. He was buried in the crypt laid out by his father in 1741 in the town church of Hohenleuben .
