Heinrich Vockel (born June 14, 1892 in Neuhaus near Paderborn , † January 22, 1968 in Berlin ) was a German economic politician ( center , CDU ). He was the first Berlin commissioner for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Life

Heinrich Vockel came from a long-established farming family on the Thunemeierhof, an offshoot of the Thunehof. He studied law and political science in Berlin . In 1921 he was promoted to Dr. rer. pole. PhD. Vockel had been a member of the Catholic student association KAV Suevia Berlin in the CV since his student days . After completing his studies, he became involved in the German Center Party and, as its general secretary, took part in the talks on the Regensburg Agreement with the BVP in 1927 . He was a member of the Reichstag in the Weimar Republic from 1930 to 1933 (5th to 8th electoral term).

In the First World War he was used as a soldier and lost his right eye. In the post-war period he became director of the Hertie department store group and was particularly committed to the reconstruction of the KaDeWe department store in Berlin , which was completely burned out on November 24, 1943 and which he was able to reopen on July 3, 1950.

In 1945 Vockel was one of the founding members of the Berlin CDU alongside Heinrich Krone .

Vockel 1949 was next to Heinz Galinski , Heinrich Grüber , Annedore liver , Ernst Lemmer , Edwin Redslob , Kathe Brightwood , Margarete summer , Joachim Tiburtius , Ernst Tillich , Siegmund Weltlinger , Jeanette Wolff and other founding member of the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation in Berlin whose Catholic chairman from 1949 to 1965 (alongside Edwin Redslob and Joachim Tiburtius as Protestant chairman and Siegmund Weltlinger as Jewish chairman).

Under Konrad Adenauer he was appointed first agent of the Federal Republic of Germany in Berlin on February 1, 1950; his successor was Felix von Eckardt . In addition to Gustav Klingelhöfer as a representative of the Berlin magistrate, Vockel was chairman of the ERP Advisory Committee ( Marshall Plan ) convened in January 1950 . He was a co-founder of the “ Berlinzulage ” and in 1953 opened a transit camp for refugees from the Eastern Bloc in Berlin-Wannsee, administered by international Catholic welfare organizations .

On June 14, 1962 he was honored with the Ernst Reuter plaque for his special services to the city of Berlin and on July 5, 1962 he was made an honorary citizen of his home town of Neuhaus Castle; the certificate was awarded on August 26, 1962. He was also an honorary member of the Association of Berlin Merchants and Industrialists (VBKI) since June 14, 1952 . Vockel was buried in the Dahlem cemetery; his grave was recognized as an honorary grave of the state of Berlin. Part of Vockel's estate is at the Heimatverein Schloß Neuhaus 1909 e. V.

Vockel was married and had a son who died while driving a submarine during World War II .
