Heinrich Wilhelm Dahlen

Heinrich Wilhelm Dahlen (born December 17, 1853 in Lorch am Rhein , † March 31, 1904 in Wiesbaden ) was a German economist, publicist and general secretary of the German Winegrowing Association .

Life and accomplishments

After training at the Higher Citizens' School in Wiesbaden and the Hofmann Institute in Sankt Goarshausen , he joined the Fresenius Chemical Laboratory in Wiesbaden in 1871 and was assistant to Ulrich Kreusler and Heinrich Ritthausen at the agricultural chemistry research station in Poppelsdorf from 1873 to 1875 . In 1876 Dahlen began working as a technical officer at Adolph Blankenhorn's oenological institute in Karlsruhe . In 1882 he moved to the Royal Institute for Fruit and Wine Growing in Geisenheim , but in 1894 he moved to Wiesbaden, probably because of his children.

In 1876 he became general secretary of the German Viticulture Association, for which he organized 23 viticulture congresses and general assemblies and wrote 20 congress reports. Dahlen was in charge of the German wine exhibition at the World Exhibition in Chicago in 1893 , in Paris in 1900 and directed the preparations for the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis . He also worked on the templates for the first and second Wine Laws (1892, 1901). On July 31, 1897 , he was accepted into the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
