Heinrich Wolter von Streversdorf

Heinrich Wolter Freiherr von Streversdorf also Wolter Heinrich von Strevesdorff (* 1588 in Neuss ; † May 7, 1674 in Mainz ) was auxiliary bishop in Mainz and temporarily also worked in the Archdiocese of Cologne .

Von Streversdorf came from an old Spanish family. From 1600 he attended high school in Cologne and then joined the Augustinian hermits , where he made his profession in 1610 and was ordained priest for the order in 1611 . After studying theology in Cologne and Würzburg doctorate he in 1621 in Cologne Dr. theol. For the next twelve years he was university professor and faculty dean in Cologne, subprior of the convention and prior for nine years .

After he was a visitor and provincial vicar , he became general commissioner of his order in Thuringia and Saxony in 1628 . 1634 him certain of the end because in Cologne Mainz Archbishop Anselm Casimir Wambolt of Umstadt to Auxiliary Bishop for the Thuringian share his diocese. Affiliated at the Liebfrauenstift in Erfurt and officiating as provost, he was also affirmed at St. Peter in Mainz and, from 1663, also a collegiate scholaster . As Kurmainzer council and council of the Archduke Leopold of Austria, he was active as auxiliary bishop in the Rhenish areas of the Archdiocese of Cologne from around 1648 and as such gave up his office as auxiliary bishop in Thuringia in 1655.

In 1648 he became provicar , professor of theology, dean , in 1656 then chancellor and 1669 rector of the University of Mainz in the course of the reorganization of the Mainz general vicariate . From 1657 he was probably again responsible for Thuringia as auxiliary bishop, but he still kept his residence in Mainz and temporarily also in Cologne. With good contacts to the nunciature in Cologne, he was busy with plans for union between the denominations in Mainz from 1660 .
