Heinrich Zilliken (born December 14, 1841 in Cochem , † October 20, 1900 in Münstermaifeld ) was a goldsmith and watchmaker from Münstermaifeld.

Life

Between 1865 and 1870 he founded the tower clock factory in Münstermaifeld, which his son Matthias (* 1869; † 1918) continued from 1900 until bankruptcy in 1912. He built the house in today Frankenstraße 2 and established there as well as on the grounds of the underlying today gas station the factory . The tower clocks, almost all of which were made in Münstermaifeld and sold in the whole area up to the Middle Moselle , the Eifel as well as the Hunsrück , the Rhineland and the Saar area , made Zilliken famous.

In his simple workshop he made all the individual parts that were later assembled in the tower. He employed several journeymen and apprentices, including a model carpenter who made the molds for the housings. Very early on he had a petroleum engine to drive the lathes.

The dials made in Johann Dietzler's locksmith's workshop (locksmith's shop in the street “Schweiz” ) were then gilded by the Balmus brothers.

In addition to making clocks, Heinrich Zilliken was also active on the city council.

After his death, his son Mathias Zilliken (1869–1918) continued to run the company until it went bankrupt in 1912.

The last order from Mathias Zilliken was the former church tower clock of the collegiate church St. Martin and St. Severus in Münstermaifeld, which can now be seen restored in the town hall. Another, smaller tower clock from Münstermaifeld was built in 1893 and can be seen at Pyrmont Castle .
