Heinrich von Haag

Heinrich Daniel Maria Haag , since 1893 Ritter von Haag (born August 21, 1838 in Munich ; † November 13, 1928 ibid), pseudonym : Heinrich Haunsberg , was a Bavarian lawyer , civil servant and insurance specialist .

Life

origin

He was the son of the council and central cashier at the Royal Bavarian General Directorate of the Transport Authority in Munich Ludwig Haag (1804-1887) and his wife Johanna, née von Mangstel (1807-1893). His brother was the later Bavarian general of the infantry Hermann von Haag (1843-1935).

Career

After having passed the Abitur, Haag completed a law degree at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After he had already dealt with the issues of agriculture during his studies, Haag subsequently took up the position of district secretary of the Agricultural Association of Upper Bavaria , then he was appointed district assessor and chairman of the agricultural district committee in Laufen . In 1875 he was appointed to the State Ministry of the Interior to do the preparatory work for the Fire Insurance Act , after which he was appointed as a consultant at the newly created Fire Insurance Chamber.

After he was appointed ministerial director in 1880 , he was made head of the insurance and agriculture departments in the Ministry of the Interior. Haag, who also chaired the Land consolidation and cultivation commissions, was responsible for the establishment of the hail insurance company in 1884, the world's first state hail insurance company, and the cattle insurance company in 1896. In 1896, Haag took over the presidency of the Insurance Chamber , which he held until he retired in 1910. It was in this era that the Horse Insurance Company was established in 1900.

Haag was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown by Prince Regent Luitpold in 1893 . Associated with this was the elevation to the personal nobility status and he was allowed to call himself "Knight of the Hague" after his entry in the nobility register . In 1910 he had received the Grand Commander of this order. Haag, who was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in 1897 , emerged as the author of comments on Bavarian agricultural and insurance laws and of theater plays under the pseudonym Heinrich Haunsberg.

He married Karoline (1841-1929), daughter of the Imperial and Royal Rittmeister Raimund Kaan Edler von Albest, in Kufstein in 1866 .
