Heinrich von Vallade (born December 7, 1830 in Landau (Palatinate) , † December 21, 1870 in Orléans , France) was a Bavarian nobleman, officer and educator in the Wittelsbach royal house .

Life

Heinrich von Vallade came from an old Bavarian aristocratic and officer family with French roots. He was the son of the Bavarian captain in the 10th Infantry Regiment stationed in Landau , Joseph Carl Franz von Vallade and his wife Sophia Elisabetha Henriette Bellon.

He joined the cadet corps in Munich in 1842 , and from there in 1849 the Bavarian Army . First he became a Junker , on November 11th 1850 a second lieutenant in the 12th Infantry Regiment . Because of his mathematical talent, Vallade was employed in the topographical office of the army until 1855 . a. took part in surveying measures in the mountains.

In 1855 he received the special assignment to accompany the sons of the future Prince Regent Luitpold from Bavaria to Italy, in whose upbringing he was involved as a private teacher after his return. These were Princes Ludwig (who later became King Ludwig III), Leopold and Arnulf . Since 1852 the officer Ferdinand von Malaisé (1806-1892), to whom Vallade was assigned to support , acted as the main educator and mathematics teacher of the sons . In addition to general upbringing, he mainly worked as a geography teacher. When the two eldest princes began their military careers in 1863, Malaisé left court service and Heinrich von Vallade remained in Prince Luitpold's household as Prince Arnulf's main tutor. In 1859 he was promoted to first lieutenant and in 1865 to captain .

After Prince Arnulf had turned 18 and became a soldier in the summer of 1870 with the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War , Vallade transferred from court service to the infantry body regiment . With the replacement division he reached the regiment at Sedan and made a. a. the battle at Artenay , the fighting for Orléans , and the battle at Beaugency with. In the latter he was seriously wounded on December 8, 1870, and French doctors had to amputate his right foot. He was taken to Orléans, where he died of his injuries on December 21st. The body was later transferred to Munich.

Vallade was posthumously praised for his bravery in the 1870/71 campaign in the Bavarian Army Order of April 3, 1871. He was also Knight of the Order of St. Michael and the Grand Ducal Tuscan Military Merit Order .

A memorial plaque was dedicated to him in the Landau / Pfalz collegiate church, which was still used at the same time .

family

The officer had been married since 1867 and had two children. His brother Joseph Max von Vallade (1825–1882), a Catholic priest in the Speyer diocese , was a very committed pastor in Bockenheim an der Weinstrasse .
