Heinz Beberniß

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinz Beberniß (born July 29, 1920 in Diemitz , today part of Halle (Saale) ; † May 14, 2012 ibid) was a German sculptor , painter and graphic artist .

Live and act

His father Heinrich Beberniß (1894–1985) worked as a teacher in the wall painting workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar and later at the castle . Heinz Beberniß studied from 1937 to 1939 at the "Burg" with Gustav Weidanz and Herbert Post . From 1947 he was a freelance artist in Halle (Saale). His work was funded from the 1960s onwards by orders from the Leunawerke . He is one of the founding members of the Halle Artists Association(VhK). 1958–1974 he was chairman of the sculptors section in the Halle / Saale district organization of the VBK of the GDR. Beberniß had exhibitions in the GDR, FRG, France, India, Poland, Romania and the USSR. Heinz Beberniß was in artistic partnership with Walter Opitz , Otto Nagel , Arno Mohr and Fritz Cremer . In the last years of his life he gave up his studio and devoted himself mainly to painting. His oil paintings, watercolors and pen drawings are largely unknown. This facet in Heinz Beberniss's work could be admired in Berlin. The artist was commissioned with the interior design of public buildings, hospitals, retirement homes and restaurants. The interior design of the former large Ahornblatt restaurant on Berlin's Fischerinsel (demolished), in today's Kursana senior citizens' homes, East Berlin, and in the GDR Foreign Ministry in Berlin-Mitte (demolished) was particularly outstanding .

The reader in Halle (Saale)

Beberniß created over 370 sculptures (as of 2001), including statuettes, large sculptures, steles and fountains. In Halle and Leuna alone there are over 20 of his works of art in public spaces. Shape and material vary greatly, ranging from large, semi-abstract structures (example: tulip fountain in Halle-Neustadt ) to stocky athletes (example: shot putter in Halle-Neustadt ) to delicate female figures (example: the reader on the Ziegelwiese in Halle).

Fists on the Riebeckplatz in Halle (Saale)

The fists were torn off in July 2003 on Riebeckplatz in Halle (Saale) after months of dispute over the manner. The first application for this is from 1997. The main point of criticism at the time was that they would appear threatening. The plastic Uzbek girl was stolen in 1995 , which was located at Am Gastronom in Halle-Neustadt and in 1992 teachers and students in Teutschenthal . The group of figures Völkerfreundschaft in Halle-Neustadt fell victim to vandalism, and one of their heads was cut off in 1997. The reader has already been dismantled several times in Halle (Saale) (most recently emergency rescue after attempted theft in July 2007), but it was put back up in 2009. The artwork Student Couple was created in 1987 as a commission from the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , but then forgotten and only handed over in 2007. Also in 2009 it did not find a site. There is a similar process in Thale , where the Beberniß sculpture The Reader was supposed to be placed in front of the library, but then ended up in a school yard. Its implementation was discussed but not implemented. There is also a curious story about the Ernst Thälmann memorial in Dessau: For fear of damage, the bust was saved and only erected on the birthday of the KPD politician. The three relief panels Beberniß 'in the Leuna district of Kröllwitz and the soldier of the National People's Army in the plastic park in Leuna were also removed (stored) .

Awards

In 1960 he was awarded the Handel Prize of the Halle district .
