Heinz Erbstößer

Heinz Erbstößer (born March 14, 1940 in Torgau ) is a former German sprinter who started for the GDR .

Erbstößer was able to qualify for the all-German team in 1964 in the 200-meter run and in the 4 x 100 meter relay . At the Olympic Games in Tokyo he was eliminated over 200 m in the preliminary run, in the 4 x 100 meter relay he just missed the final in 40.1 seconds.

In 1966 he won silver over 60 m at the European Indoor Games in Dortmund . At the European Athletics Championships in Budapest, he was eliminated both over 100 m and over 200 m in the intermediate run. The GDR's 4 x 100 meter relay, made up of Erbstößer, Rainer Berger , Hermann Burde and Harald Eggers , won in 39.8 seconds and finished fourth in the final with 40.0 seconds.

Two years later, at the Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968, Erbstößer ran the 100 m intermediate run with 10.28 s, the fastest time of his career, but was eliminated in fifth place. The 4 x 100 meter relay with Erbstößer, Hartmut Schelter , Peter Haase and Harald Eggers set a new European record in the semifinals with 38.72 seconds. This record was improved to 38.43 s by the French relay in the final . The French were third, the relay of the GDR improved the GDR record with 38.66 seconds in fifth place.

Erbstößer was runner-up in the GDR in the 200 m as early as 1959. From 1962 to 1966 Erbstößer won the championship title on this route five times in a row . In 1962, 1964, 1965 and 1968 he was GDR champion over 100 m . In 1966 he was second over 50 m at the GDR indoor championships .

Erbstößer started first for the SC Rotation Leipzig , later for the SC Leipzig , in his competition time he was 1.74 m tall and 72 kg heavy.
