Heinz Steinwedel (born May 14, 1938 ) is a former German soccer player . The defender played 60 games for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga from 1964 to 1967 .

Career

Steinwedel was taken over for the 1959/60 season from the amateur team of the "Reds", where he was trained under coach Hans Kirk , in the league squad. Under coach Günter Grothkopp , the young defensive player made his debut on August 16, 1959 in a 2-1 home win against Hamburger SV at the side of his defender colleague Helmut Geruschke in the northern soccer league . The 96ers finished in sixth place at the end of the round and Steinwedel had defended in 28 league games in the major league for Hanover. The reliable defender gained his first international experience in the trade fair cup in the 1960/61 season in the games against Inter Milan with their players Mario Corso , Aristide Guarneri and Armando Picchi as well as Espanol Barcelona. In the last year of the old first-class league system - 1962/63 - the 96ers with coach Heinz Lucas were only ninth and therefore not at the start of the new Bundesliga.
