Helena Olsson Smeby (born November 2, 1983 as Helena Olsson in Sysslebäck , Tosrby municipality ) is a former Swedish ski jumper who started for Norway in 2008 .

Career

Olsson took part in the first ever women's ski jumping competition, a demonstration competition held on the fringes of the 1998 Junior World Championships in St. Moritz . There she took seventh place. In 2000 she took part in the 2nd FIS Ladies Grand Prix and finished ninth in the overall ranking. At the 2001 Grand Prix she was 16. In the summer of 2001 she took part in the jumping of the FIS Ladies Tour and finished fifth in the overall ranking. In her third participation in the Grand Prix 2002 she won the jumping competitions in Baiersbronn and Schönwald and secured third place in the overall Grand Prix standings. In March 2002 she was able to win two international competitions in Vikersund and also won the women 's competition that took place on Holmenkollbakken in the preliminary program of the World Cup . In 2003 she took part in two women's competitions held in connection with the Men's Continental Cup in Planica , in which she took third and fourth place. At the following Ladies Grand Prix 2003 she took fourth place. At the Holmenkollen she came fourth in March. In two Alpine Cups held in Predazzo in October 2003 , she took a second and a third place. In 2004 she did not take part in the Ladies Grand Prix, but was able to take fourth place in the Holmenkollen Jumping and started as a preliminary rider in ski flying in Vikersund. In the following year, she competed in two competitions of the newly introduced Ladies Continental Cup (COC) taking place in Vikersund and occupied places in the midfield. She then ended her career for the time being, but returned to ski jumping in 2008 at the COC summer competitions in Lillehammer . Before the start of the winter season, she married the ski jumping coach Jostein Smeby , the brother of the former Norwegian ski jumper Henriette Smeby , and took on Norwegian citizenship. In the 2008/09 season she competed in the Continental Cup and was able to regularly place in the top ten. Her best result was a fourth place on January 25, 2009 in Ljubno . From December 2009 she took a break from competition and became a mother. In September 2013 she appeared again for the first time at a Continental Cup in Lillehammer and, in fourth place, missed the podium by one point. On December 7, 2013, she made her debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup in Lillehammer and was 13th. During the season she reached fourth place in three competitions.

At the Olympic premiere of women's ski jumping, she finished 14th.
