Helga Pankratz
Helga Pankratz (born February 6, 1959 in Wiener Neustadt ; † January 27, 2014 in Vienna ) was an Austrian freelance writer in the alternative and feminist publishing and magazine industry as well as a cabaret artist and activist of the lesbian and gay movement .
Life
Helga Pankratz mainly wrote poems , short prose and essays , which were published in numerous literary magazines and anthologies throughout the German-speaking area and in four of her own books. A book and poems by her have been translated into Slovenian . She also wrote song lyrics as well as comments and reviews and was an editor for the magazines an.schlag , LAMBDA-Nachrichten and Morgenschtean . In the 1990s she wrote and played women's cabaret. She has received several literary prizes for her work.
She was a member of the International Dialect Institute (IDI) , Secretary General of the Association of Austrian Dialect Authors and Archives (Ö.DA) and a board member of the ARGE Region Culture and the Minorities Initiative .
In 1981 she co-founded the lesbian group and in 1983 the gay and lesbian youth group in the Association Homosexual Initiative ( HOSI ) Vienna , in 2001 she launched the school attendance project “Peerconnexion”. From March 2001 to March 2004 she was also the chairwoman of the association. In 1995 she took part in the EuroGames in Frankfurt as a tournament dancer for the lesbian women's dance club Resis.danse , and in 1998 she got to know a few Austrian athletes at the Gay Games in Amsterdam. She took the initiative, started the networking of homosexual athletes, reported repeatedly in the LAMBDA news and was thus a pioneer of homosexual sports in Austria.
In the last years of her life, Helga Pankratz contracted lung cancer and died on January 27, 2014 at the age of 54 from the consequences of the disease.

- 2000 Gay And Lesbian Award (GALA) from HOSI Linz for special services to the legal and social equality of lesbians and gays in Austria.
