Helmut Otto Schön

Helmut Otto Schön (* 1941 ) is a German sculptor and painter . He lives in Munich .

Life

Schön did his training at the Luisen Gewerbeschule in Munich. The teachers were the sculptor Josef Baumgartner and the painter Florian Bosch as well as the architect and painter Max Dellefant .

After completing his apprenticeship, he went to Cologne to work with sculptor Klaus Petersen, who was primarily involved in the preservation of monuments at Cologne Cathedral, in order to perfect himself in the stone carving trade. Petersen was the son-in-law of Gerhard Marcks , with whom Schön received private lessons. In 1962, during his military service, he was allowed to take part with Oskar Kokoschka at the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg . In 1967 he married the sculptor Gerdy Kurz. Schön worked mainly for municipal and state clients.

Since 2005 he has mainly worked as a painter.
