Helmut F. Spinner

Helmut F. Spinner (born January 28, 1937 in Offenburg ) is a German philosopher , scientific theorist and sociologist .

Spinner's focus is on science studies , the theory of rationality and the philosophy of technology ; he founded the Karlsruhe approach of integrated knowledge research .

Having grown up around critical rationalism , Spinner's philosophical approach is characterized by the fact that, inspired by Paul Feyerabend , he tried to expand the principles of fallibilism (opposition: strategy of justification ) and theoretic pluralism (opposition: theoretical monism ), and not least of all the critical rationalism to relate himself and his followers.

Life

Helmut F. Spinner studied at the Universities of Mannheim, Cologne, Heidelberg and London (1970/71 London School of Economics , the first European Leverhulme Research Fellow at the Department of Philosophy, before Karl R. Popper , after Imre Lakatos , JN Watkins ) economics , law and psychology (with a diploma); Philosophy , philosophy of science and sociology (with doctorate and habilitation); 1970 Doctorate to Dr. phil., 1979 habilitation for science studies and sociology of science, 1983 habilitation for sociology.

Teaching and research activities at the Universities of Mannheim, London, Bamberg, Gießen, Heidelberg, Marburg, Karlsruhe.

Helmut Spinner was appointed professor at the University of Mannheim in 1985 , and in 1987 he was appointed professor for philosophy and head of the Studium Generale at the University of Karlsruhe . Spinner retired on March 31, 2002 ; he lives in Brühl near Mannheim .
