Henner Schmidt

Henner Schmidt (born January 29, 1964 in Düsseldorf ) is a German politician ( FDP ). He has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives since 2016 , to which he was a member from 2006 to 2011. From September 2015 to March 2016 he was provisional state chairman of the Berlin FDP .

Life

After graduating from high school , Schmidt studied chemical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe and the École nationale supérieure des industries chimiques in Nancy (France), which he graduated with a diploma in 1990. He then worked as a management consultant, initially for McKinsey & Company , where he was responsible in particular for projects in the chemical industry, and since 1994 has been a freelance partner in a medium-sized management consultancy.

Political party

From 2002 to 2006, Schmidt was chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the district council assembly (BVV) of the Mitte district of Berlin. He was also chairman from 2005 to 2009 and deputy chairman from 2009 to 2011 of the FDP district association in Berlin-Mitte. From 2010 to 2014 he was an assessor in the state board of the Berlin FDP, in March 2014 he was elected its deputy chairman. On September 15, 2015, after the resignation of the previous chairwoman, Alexandra Thein, he temporarily took over the office of party chairman.

Schmidt has been a member of the Federal Environment Committee of the FDP since 2007 as a member named by his Berlin regional association, and from 2008 to 2012 the Federal Committee of Transport as an expert and since 2014 of the Federal Committee of Economics and Energy as an expert.

Henner Schmidt was elected as a member of the Berlin House of Representatives in the Mitte district of Berlin in 2006. There he was chairman of the committee for administrative reform, communication and information technology and thus the only committee chairman, which the FDP parliamentary group provided. He was also the spokesman for his group for environmental policy and administrative reform. From 2006 to 2009 he was also deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group. In the election for the Berlin House of Representatives in 2011 , the FDP no longer moved into the House of Representatives and its mandate ended. In the election to the Berlin House of Representatives in 2016 , Schmidt won another mandate. He was elected via the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district list. In the House of Representatives he is the specialist spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group for infrastructure and environmental policy.

In December 2008, Schmidt caused a sensation when he suggested that citizens of the federal capital Berlin should be paid a fee for killed rats in order to combat the rat plague. Schmidt's statement made in this context, "Especially people who otherwise collect bottles, could then get one euro for each dead rat," sparked protests. Schmidt apologized for this statement, which "was (had) been misunderstood as a suggestion to deliberately involve people in economic difficulties and in economic need to fight rats".
