Alexandra Thein (born October 5, 1963 in Bochum ) is a lawyer and notary as well as a German politician of the FDP . From March 2014 to September 2015 she was chairwoman of the Berlin regional association of the FDP and from May 2015 to April 2017 she was an assessor in the FDP federal executive committee .

Life

Alexandra Thein grew up in Saarland and obtained the Franco-German Abitur at the German-French Gymnasium in Saarbrücken in 1982 . From 1982 to 1988 she studied law in Saarbrücken, Geneva and Freiburg (including the "European Integration" course at the Europa-Institut, Saarbrücken; international studies at the Institut universitaire d'études européennes and at the Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales, Geneva).

In 1988 Alexandra Thein moved to Berlin as a trainee lawyer , where she passed her second state examination in 1991. Since 1991 she has been working as a lawyer in Berlin, since 1993 self-employed (social partner) - since 2001 also notary. She currently works for the law firm Quegwer & Thein.

Alexandra Thein is married.

Political party

Alexandra Thein joined the FDP in 1990. She was politically active in the Berlin regional association of the FDP in numerous honorary functions, including as long-time chairwoman of the Dahlem local association, as a member of the regional committee of the regional arbitration court and as a member of the regional executive committee.

In October 2008 the European election assembly of the Berlin FDP selected Alexandra Thein from seven candidates as Berlin's top candidate for the European elections in 2009, in January 2009 the European election assembly of the FDP elected her from five candidates to 11th place on the federal list for this election.

In January 2014, Alexandra Thein was elected 7th place on the federal list for the 2014 European elections by the FDP's European election assembly.

In March 2014 Thein was elected as the new chairman of the Berlin regional association of the FDP, replacing the previous incumbent Martin Lindner . Since May 2015 she has been a member of the FDP federal executive committee . On September 15, 2015, Thein announced her resignation as chairwoman for health reasons. Henner Schmidt became the acting chairman .

MPs

In the European elections on June 7, 2009 , Alexandra Thein was elected to the 7th European Parliament as one of 99 German MPs and twelve candidates on the list of the FDP . There Thein belonged to the FDP delegation as their legal policy spokeswoman, transnationally to the liberal ALDE parliamentary group.

When it was constituted in July 2009, the 7th European Parliament elected Alexandra Thein as a member of the Legal Affairs Committee and as a substitute member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs . Thein was a member of the delegation for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council , member of the delegation for relations with Iraq and deputy member of the delegation for relations with Afghanistan . She is also active in two intergroups, namely “Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises” and “LGBT Rights”. Thein was also a member of the delegation for relations with Israel. She lost her mandate in the 2014 European elections .

Memberships and offices

Alexandra Thein was deputy chairwoman of the Berlin State Association of Liberal Women and the board of the Berlin State Association of Liberal SMEs .

She is a member of the Europa-Union and the Europa-Union parliamentary group in the European Parliament .

Thein has been chairwoman of the advisory board of the German-Arab Society since April 2010 .
