Martin Matz

Martin Matz (born April 13, 1965 in Bremen ) is a German politician (until 2004 FDP , since 2005 SPD ). From 2001 to 2006 he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives and then District Councilor for Social Affairs and Health in Berlin- Spandau . Since December 4, 2018, he has been State Secretary for Health in the Senate Department for Health, Care and Equality .

Life

Education and professional career

After graduating from high school in Bremen-Horn (1984) and training in a bank in Bremen (1984–1986) as well as basic military service in Schwanewede (1986–1987) and working as a tour guide in North America (1988), Matz studied business administration at the Westphalian Wilhelms from 1988 -University of Münster . He graduated with a degree in business administration in 1993 . From 1994 to 2001 he held various positions at companies in Berlin .

From 2011 to 2018 he was one of two full-time directors of the Diakonisches Werk Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia.

Political activities

From 2001 to 2006 Matz was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives . There he was a member of the main committee , health committee and the steering committee for reform of the public health service . Until 2004 Matz was a member of the FDP , including from 1996 to 1998 regional chairman in Berlin and from 1997 to 2003 a member of the FDP federal executive committee. In 2005 he switched to the SPD , where he has been chairman of the SPD department (local association) Lichterfelde-West and a member of the SPD district executive since 2006.

From 2006 to 2011 he was District Councilor for Social Affairs and Health in the District Office of Spandau. From the 2011 elections until his appointment as State Secretary in December 2018, he was a member of the Steglitz-Zehlendorf District Assembly of Berlin. On December 4, 2018, Senator Dilek Kolat appointed him as the new State Secretary for Health in the Senate Department for Health, Care and Equal Opportunities of the State of Berlin after Boris Velter was put into temporary retirement .

Private

Matz has a daughter.
