Henrik Lund (painter)

Henrik Louis Lund (born September 8, 1879 in Bergen , † December 23, 1935 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian landscape and portrait painter , etcher and lithographer .

life and work

Lund was the son of Lieutenant Colonel Henrik Louis Bull Lund (1838-1891) and his wife the pianist Birgitte Charlotte (née Carlsen). He went to sea until 1897. Then he graduated from the Naval War School in Horten . Lund was a student of Harriet Backer in 1899 and was under the influence of Edvard Munch .

In 1903 he was a graphic student at the drawing school in Kristiania with Johan Nordhagen. In 1905 Lund was in Paris . After that he lived in Copenhagen until 1909 . After 1909 he moved to Norway and made many trips abroad.

From 1910 to 1911 he was a scholarship holder in Berlin and Hamburg . Lund was in the United States from 1912 to 1913, 1915 and 1935 . In 1920/1921 he was in Paris and London . In 1924 he was in Italy .

Lund was successful as a landscape and portrait painter; in addition, he created an extensive lithographic oeuvre. Lund had been married to Gunbjør [g] (née Olsen, September 21, 1880 to 1965) since 1900. She was the daughter of Christian Olsen and his wife Jeanette Maria (née Reistad).
