Herbert Naumann (born August 3, 1918 in Dresden ; † 2003 ibid); was a German craftsman , sculptor , ceramicist and painter and lived in Dresden.

Life

From 1948 to 1953 he studied at the HfbK in Dresden with Rudolf Kaiser . From 1954 he worked as an assistant in the ceramics facility at Kaiser. During the restructuring at the HfbK around 1954, a school principle of socialist artist training was found. In 1955, art education , artistic practice and art history and aesthetics were added to his duties . From 1957 to 1967 he worked as a lecturer in ceramics at the HfbK Dresden under department head Walter Arnold . From 1967 to 1983 he was a professor for ceramic plastic and from 1979 onwards, during the class formation period, he was in charge of the entire training from the second to fourth year of study. He imparted manual and technical skills as well as aesthetic principles and the handling of specific materials to his students. The field of building ceramics joined the purely visual arts. In addition to the well-known materials such as wood , glass , fabric, metal , textiles and precious metals, he also tried out his artistic work in the field of ceramics. With craftsmanship on the potter's wheel, he produced ceramic reliefs, half-reliefs and full sculptures. With the material, a reddish tone, he covered his models with opaque glazes, colored glazes or dissolved metal oxides such as copper , cobalt , iron and magnesium after the first firing . In addition, enamel colors were used. In all of his creative, free-form creations, he considered people to be the focus.
