life and work

family

Klar's family was originally based in the city of Cologne, where his parents Peter Klar and Änne, née Feuser, were born around the turn of the 20th century. Peter Klar received training as a teacher and as such took up a position in Neumagen-Dhron on the Moselle . The family's children, the twin brothers Heribert Peter and Heinz-Günther, who were born in a clinic in Trier in 1933, grew up there.

Training, job

Heribert Klar started school in 1939 or 1940 and later switched to a high school for boys in Bernkastel-Kues . After graduating there, he took up training at the Bad Münstereifel School of Justice , which in 1975 became today's North Rhine-Westphalia University of Applied Sciences in Bad Münstereifel . After completing his training as a judicial officer, Klar took up residence in his parents' hometown in Cologne, where he began his professional career at the local court as a young inspector . As a senior civil servant , he was entrusted with a wide range of tasks and most recently worked as a judicial officer at the Cologne Higher Regional Court .

Career as a local poet

Clearly started a family in the early 1960s. He bought his own home in the Cologne suburb of Pesch, which was growing at the time . There, in the midst of his family, which later grew by two children, he also wrote his first works, reproduced in the Cologne dialect , and grew more and more autodidactically into his authorship, which was based in the Ripuarian dialect .

Early on, he was involved in associations for dialect authors and was already on the board of the Heimatverein Alt-Köln in 1976, which also offered him a platform for the publication of his works written in the Ripuarian dialect . Later he joined the "Group of Rhenish Dialect Writers", which cultivated the language varieties between Hunsrück and Lower Rhine , and was elected chairman of a newly founded association "Group of Rhenish Dialect Writers eV" based in Cologne in 1981. During this time, among other things, a 25-year period began, in which he provided the column "Uns kölsche Verzällcher" with the equally popular dialect author Cilli Martin with regular articles for the Kölnische Rundschau .

Heribert Klar developed further and became the author of stage plays , radio plays , poetry and prose and received a fixed broadcast time in regular intervals in the radio program WDR 4 , which was started in January 1984 . As a co-author he has contributed to numerous anthologies . He used the great variety of topics that Klar offered in a big city like Cologne in a form of Cologne humor that was unique to him in countless reflections that were put on paper. These include his sonnet wreath on Cologne Cathedral and poems, of which he wrote a special one for each of the city's twelve large Romanesque churches .

In cooperation between the “Rheinische Mundartschriftsteller eV” association and the Rhineland Regional Association , the series “Voices of the Landscape” was created, to which Klar himself contributed, selected the work of his fellow authors for this series and took on the editing work. In recognition of his services, the regional association awarded him the Rheinlandtaler in 1990 .

Commemoration

The city of Cologne named an open space in the Pesch district in the Mengenicher Strasse as Heribert-Klar-Platz. On the official Pescher website of the cemetery she gives information on the location of the poet's grave and writes to Klar,

"... who, although not a native of Cologne, spoke the Cologne language like no other and understood the Cologne mentality."

Also in memory and in honor of its deceased founding chairman, the Rheinischer Mundartschriftsteller eV group donates and awards the "Heribert Klar Prize" every two years to people who have made a name for themselves in the dialect.
