Career in a special field
In Germany, careers in special fields were civil servants ' careers in which the qualification for a career was not proven by completing a preparatory service with a subsequent career test, but by relevant professional experience. The reason for the introduction was mostly that the need for civil servants of a specialty was so small that the establishment of a preparatory service was not profitable.
The legal structure (species, admission requirements, responsibilities, etc.) governed Federation and countries each autonomously on their part. In order to provide evidence of career qualification, most employers required a professional activity of two to three and a half years, which could have been performed within or outside the public service . The highest service authority usually decided on the determination of the career qualification and thus the admission to a career in a special field .
There were special careers in the middle, upper and higher service, but not in the simple service, as there is already no career test there, the lack of which had to be compensated for by professional experience.
Federation
Since February 13, 2009, there are no longer any specialty careers in federal law. The formerly in § 34 a. F. of the Federal Career Ordinance regulated subjects were transferred to the regular subjects.

This means that the previous special regulations for the higher service for the medical sector, the library service and the food chemistry service are no longer applicable, but will continue to apply to applicants who were hired before the new career regulations came into force:
Medical service: The time as a medical assistant, compulsory assistant or doctor in the internship counted towards the required professional experience.
Library service: The prerequisites are also met by the 1st state examination in law if an additional degree in library science and two years of professional experience can be proven.
Food chemistry service: The practical training after the university studies counted towards the required professional experience.

Special regulation in the chemical service : The prerequisite for employment was a university degree in chemistry or food chemistry. The times in which you worked as a chemist or as a food chemist are added together. The practical year of training to become a food chemist counts as professional experience.
Additional qualification in the dental service : For the appointment, it was assumed that the applicant is also an oral surgeon.
