Hercules, the horror of the Huns (original title: Il terrore dei barbari ) is an Italian adventure film from 1959. German premiere was on December 11, 1959.
action
In Northern Italy, 568. The Huns, led by Captain Igor, roam the country plundering and killing. The locals turn to the vigorous Emiliano, whose father has just fallen victim to the hordes. He uses an animal mask and claws to spread terror among the intruders. Igor can arrest him after a while; Emiliano meets the beautiful Landa, daughter of the Hun King Albuin, in the barbarian camp and falls in love with her. The rival Northern Italian Count Delfo adviser Svevo sees this with resentment, as he makes himself hopes for Landa, and intrigues wherever he can, so that many difficult tests await Emiliano, which he can only pass with the help of his superhuman strength.
criticism
"An involuntarily exhilarating adventure film full of pseudo-historical kitsch scenes with a leading role for the muscle man Steve Reeves, then" Mister America "."
"The whole thing would only be able to entertain ten-year-olds if it weren't for the excessive amount of courtly lottering life and cruel murders and" trials of truth "for their own sake."
"Despite the pathos that was applied as hard as a hammer, the film is still entertaining to watch today."
Remarks
In Germany, the hero of the title was quickly turned into Hercules , although this "blows up its historical-geographical space" .
