Hermann-Josef Tenhagen (born January 22, 1963 in Wesel ) is a German business journalist . Since October 2014 he has been editor-in-chief of the non-profit consumer advice guide Finanztip . Before that he was editor-in-chief of Finanztest magazine for 15 years .

Life

Tenhagen grew up in Hamminkeln- Havelich on the Lower Rhine . After graduating from high school, which he passed in 1982 at Konrad-Duden-Gymnasium Wesel , Tenhagen did his community service at Haus Aspel monastery near Rees . He gained his first experience in journalism as a freelancer for the Rheinische Post .

From 1984 to 1986 Tenhagen studied political science , economics , literature and education at the Rheinische Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn . From 1987 to 1988 he spent a year at a graduate school at the Baptist Baylor University in Waco , Texas , in the USA . Tenhagen received his diploma in political science from the Free University of Berlin .

From 1988 to 1990 he worked a. a. as an intern and freelancer for the AP news agency . In 1990 Hermann-Josef Tenhagen briefly returned to North Rhine-Westphalia ; During this time he worked for local radio stations in Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen-Buer . From 1991 to 1994 Tenhagen worked as an environmental editor for taz in Berlin. In 1992 he co-founded the “Economy and Environment” department there. He then took a year off from the taz to organize the activities of non-governmental organizations during the first World Climate Summit in Berlin in 1995 as the spokesman for the “Climate Forum '95” - the joint coordination and information center for German environmental organizations . From 1995 to 1998 Tenhagen worked again at taz ; this time as head of the “Economy and Environment” department and for the last two years also as deputy editor-in-chief. In 1998 Tenhagen moved to Freiburg im Breisgau as head of news for the Badische Zeitung . He stayed there for only one year, until in 1999 he switched to the magazine Finanztest of Stiftung Warentest as editor-in-chief , the largest independent consumer finance magazine in Germany. Since October 2014 he has been editor-in-chief and chairman of the management board at Finanztip , an independent, non-profit consumer adviser that informs its readers about current consumer topics with a weekly newsletter.

Hermann-Josef Tenhagen has been a member of the jury of the Helmut Schmidt Journalist Award since 2012 as the successor to Hubertus Primus . Tenhagen is a member of the supervisory board of the taz cooperative .
