Hermann Albert Schumacher

Hermann Albert Schumacher (born December 15, 1839 in Bremen , † June 22, 1890 in Bremen) was a German lawyer and historian .

Life

Hermann Albert Schumacher came from a Bremen senatorial family ( Isak Hermann Albrecht Schumacher , Georg Schumacher, Hermann Albert Schumacher). He graduated from the Alte Gymnasium in Bremen and studied law and history at the University of Jena , the University of Göttingen and the University of Berlin. In 1863 he became a lawyer in Bremen. 1865 appointed him Bremen Chamber of Commerce to the syndic . He was also general secretary of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). From 1865 he was a member of the Bremen citizenship . He actively accompanied the development of the founding of the North German Confederation in 1866. In 1870 he became an honorary member of Haus Seefahrt . When the establishment of the Bremer Bürgerpark was initiated in 1866 , he was one of the first leading people to support the project. He was also a member of the artists' association in Bremen .

As a historian, some of his works have enduring importance. In 1864 the work of the first jury court in Bremen was created . Among other things, he published numerous articles in the Bremen Yearbook.

In 1872 Schumacher became Minister-Resident in Colombia , in 1875 Consul General in New York and in 1883 Minister-Resident in Lima . In 1886 he came back to Bremen and was again active as an important historian.

His grave is in the family grave at the Bremen Riensberg cemetery in Bremen-Schwachhausen (grave location R 249-252).

His sons were the Berlin economist and professor Hermann Schumacher (1868–1952) and the architect and chief construction director of Hamburg Fritz Schumacher (1869–1947).
