Hermann Hoepke (anatomist)

Hermann Hoepke (born May 13, 1889 in Eberswalde ; † December 22, 1993 in Heidelberg ) was a German anatomist and professor at Heidelberg University .

Life

Hermann Hoepke, son of a judicial advisor, attended grammar school in Cottbus and Berlin from 1900 to 1909 , where he passed the Abitur at Friedrich-Werdersche grammar school. From 1909 he studied medicine at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Kiel , Marburg and Munich and graduated in 1914 with the state examination. During the First World War he was a troop doctor in a field artillery regiment on the Western Front from 1914 to 1918 . In 1918 he received his doctorate under Paul Grawitz at the University of Greifswald . From 1919 to 1921 he was an assistant at the Anatomical Institute of the University of Breslau . In 1921 he became a scheduled assistant and first prosector at the Anatomical Institute of Heidelberg University, where he qualified as a professor in 1923 and was appointed associate professor in 1927 . In 1939, his contract was not extended by the National Socialists because his wife was classified as a "first degree half-breed". He therefore worked as a compulsory general practitioner in Heidelberg until 1945 . In 1945 he was appointed full professor of anatomy and director of the Anatomical Institute of Heidelberg University. In 1946 he was released on orders from the American occupation forces. In October 1947 he was able to return to his office, which he held until his retirement in 1957. He then continued to represent the chair until 1961.

Hoepke was a non-party member of the Heidelberg city council from 1951 to 1968, where he was an intern in the CDU parliamentary group.

Hermann Hoepke was married to Gertrud, b. Proske and had two children.
