Hermann Itzigsohn
Ernst Friedrich Hermann Itzigsohn (born March 17, 1814 in Neudamm , † January 4, 1879 in Schöneberg ) was a Prussian , German medic and botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Itzigs. ".
Life
Ernst Friedrich Hermann Itzigsohn studied medicine and received his doctorate in Berlin in 1836.
Hermann Itzigsohn worked as a doctor in Frankfurt / Oder, Küstrin, Neudamm and most recently in Schöneberg.
He is the first to describe several botanical taxa , worked in particular on mosses and undertook detailed microscopic examinations of freshwater algae.
Itzigsohn was a member of the Royal Bavarian Botanical Society in Regensburg , the natural research society in Görlitz , the Society Flora in Dresden and the Pollichia .
On May 1, 1854 he was elected member ( matriculation no. 1706 ) of the Leopoldina with the academic surname Roth in the "Botany" section .
Ernst Hampe named Barbula itzigsohnii Hampe in his honor in 1843, a plant of the genus Barbula from the Pottiaceae family .
The whereabouts of his herbarium is not known.
