Hermann Josef Vogt

Hermann Josef Vogt (born July 1, 1932 in Dudweiler ; † August 28, 2015 ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman, theologian, ancient historian and patrologist .

Life

Hermann Josef Vogt entered the seminary in Trier and studied philosophy and theology at the Trier Theological Faculty and the Pontifical Gregorian University . He was an alumne of the Pontificium Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum de Urbe , the German-speaking seminary in Rome. On 10 October 1958 he received by Archbishop Luigi Traglia , the then Vizegerenten and later Cardinal Vicar for the Diocese of Rome , in Ignatius of Loyola in Campo Marzio , the ordination ; he was incardinated in his home diocese of Trier . After his retirement in 2000 he worked as a pastor in his home parish and Primizkirche St. Martin , a district of Merzig .

Vogt's main area of ​​teaching and research was Origen , one of the most famous church fathers , Christian scholars and theologians of late antiquity . From 1983 to 1993 Vogt wrote the three-volume work on Origen's commentary on the Gospel according to Matthew . Furthermore, he provided extensive research results on the Council of Ephesus (431).

Hermann Josef Vogt was committed to Christian ecumenism , in particular to the dialogue between the Catholic Church and Orthodoxy . He was a member of the "Mixed International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church".
