Hermann Knoll (born December 10, 1931 in Vienna ; † March 26, 2015 ) was an Austrian ice hockey and hockey player and ice hockey coach. His brother is Alfred Knoll .

Career

Hermann grew up in Vienna-Hernals , not far from the field hockey pitch of the Post SV Vienna . That is why he began playing field hockey there and won several Austrian championships with it in the 1950s . Internationally, he took over as field hockey players at the Summer Olympics in 1952 in part. In the 1950s he also began ice hockey at EK Engelmann Vienna , with whom he won the ice hockey championship in 1956 and 1957 .

In 1957, after EK Engelmann was dissolved, he decided to go to Canada and hitchhiked to Bremerhaven . From there he came by ship to Montreal , where he played for one season for one of the Montreal Canadiens' farm teams .

After a year in Canada, the Klagenfurt AC brought back to Austria, bringing the slap shot technique with him from Canada. The shooting technique perfected in field hockey, paired with the slap shooting technique learned in Canada, helped him to score 50 goals and win the top scorer title in the 1960/61 season. He then played for the Vienna Ice Skating Club , Klagenfurt AC , Villacher SV , EC Kitzbühel and Grazer AK . He won another championship title with the Klagenfurt AC.

Internationally, he took part in the Winter Olympics in 1956 and 1964 and in a total of eight world championships - the A-world championships in 1957, six B-world championships (1962, 1966 and 1967) and C-world championships in 1963. In total, he played 80 international games for Austria.

First he worked as a player-coach at EC Kitzbühel, Wiener EV and Grazer AK. Later he was a coach at Klagenfurt AC, with whom he also won the Austrian championship as a coach, the U20 youth national team and then Villacher SV. In 1977 Hermann Knoll led the EC VSV as a player-coach in the Bundesliga, later he was active in youth development in Carinthia. In 1980 he made promotion from the B to the A world championship with the Austrian U20 national team . A year later, he was relegated to the B-WM under Knoll's leadership.

In field hockey he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Austria.
