Hermann Robert Przewisinski

Hermann Robert Przewisinski (born March 6, 1831 in Neuchâtel / West Prussia , † October 9, 1902 in Hamburg ) was a German rear admiral in the Imperial Navy .

Life

Przewisinski was initially a half-man on board the schooner Aurora . On October 24, 1848 he joined the Prussian Navy as a second class sailor , which in 1867 became the Navy of the North German Confederation . From August 1868 to September 1869, as Corvette Captain, he was in command of the Prussian Eagle Aviso . He then took over command of the new covered corvette Elisabeth , which he led until April 1870.

Subsequently, Przewisinski was chief shipyard director of the naval shipyard of the North German Confederation in Wilhelmshaven until 1873 , later renamed the Kaiserliche Werft Wilhelmshaven . At the same time he was commissioned with the construction of the North Sea naval station and was its first station chief until October 1871. In 1872 he was promoted to sea captain.

In August 1873 Przewisinski took command of the armored frigate Friedrich Carl and at the same time the command of a squadron deployed off Spain , which was operating there because of the unrest in connection with the proclamation of the First Spanish Republic . In this role he replaced Commodore Reinhold Werner , whose actions were disapproved of by Chancellor Otto von Bismarck . In addition to Friedrich Carl , the squadron initially consisted of the covered corvette Elisabeth and the gunboat Delphin . Delphin was later replaced by the Meteor gunboat . For a mission off Cartagena, the squadron was reinforced by the armored frigate Kronprinz and smooth-deck corvette Augusta . In March 1874 Przewisinski returned to Wilhelmshaven.

From July 1874 to April 1877 he was in command of the ironclad ships King Wilhelm , Kaiser , again King Wilhelm and once again Friedrich Carl . From August 1876 to March 1877 he was also the squadron chief in the Mediterranean .

After his return, Przewisinski became an artillery officer from the square and head of the Friedrichsort artillery depot . At the same time he was entrusted with the management of the commandant of Friedrichsort. In December 1878 he was given the character of Rear Admiral in order to be put on disposition on February 15, 1881 . Once adopted Prewisinski was on 26 April 1884 to the 31 March 1902 Reichskommissar the Maritime Office Hamburg.
