In the curriculum vitae attached to this document, he mentions Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff and Jacob Wackernagel as his most influential academic teachers in addition to the reviewers for his work . After completing his doctorate, Schultz worked from 1907 to 1908 as an assistant at the German Archaeological Institute in Rome , and after leaving the company he became a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute . In his scientific work, Schultz dealt with wide areas of Greek and Latin literature. Since his studies, a focus has been on Greek poetry, especially Hesiod's epics and the associated scholias . From 1906 to 1907 he successfully worked on a prize assignment from the Royal Society of Sciences in Göttingen , in which he researched the transmission history of the Hesiod scholias. In this context he undertook research trips to Italy (1906), Greece (1907) and later to Paris, London, Oxford and Cambridge, where he examined numerous Hesiod manuscripts.

In the estate of the philologist Carl Wendel (1874–1951) there are some letters from Schultz and his widow Annemarie. Schultz's estate is in the Lower Saxony State and University Library in Göttingen (signature: Cod. Ms. H. Schultz).
