Hermann stepfather
Hermann Stiefvater (born June 11, 1903 in Freiburg im Breisgau , † April 16, 1977 in Straubing ) was a German social democratic politician .
Career
Stepfather attended the elementary and advanced training school in Altglashütten (Black Forest) and then the military college for administration, economy, trade and technology. To this end, he took evening courses at adult education centers for several years. From 1920 to 1945 he was a soldier in the Wehrmacht , most recently a lieutenant colonel and regimental commander of a tank grenadier regiment. He was captured during World War II . After returning home in 1946, he founded a hardware store in Straubing, which he ran until the end of 1957.
In the local elections in 1948 he was elected to the city council of Straubing. He was mayor for four years and from May 1, 1960 full-time mayor. From 1951 on he was also a member of the District Assembly of Lower Bavaria and was its vice-president from 1954. From November 1958 to November 1970 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament .
