Hermannshöhen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hermannshöhen hiking project emerged from a regional initiative and has been connecting the two most famous and traditional hiking trails of the Teutoburg Forest since 2004: the Hermannsweg and the Eggeweg . As a combined hiking trail, the Hermannshöhen run 226 km as a ridge path over the Teutoburg Forest and the Egge Mountains , past the Hermannsdenkmal near Detmold. In addition to the first two hiking trails, other hiking trails are also expected to come together under this project. The project is primarily intended to address tourism, but also pursues integrated regional development due to its connecting character.

Course of the Hermannshöhen

The Hermannsweg, the most north-westerly low mountain range in Germany, starts in Rheine in the flat northern Münsterland and follows the wooded ridge of the Teutoburg Forest. The path connects castles, rock formations and wide views of the Münsterland Bay on the south side of the Teutoburg Forest. After crossing the East Westphalian metropolis of Bielefeld , the route continues through the former Principality of Lippe, past the Hermannsdenkmal and the Externsteinen to the Lippische Velmerstot (441 m). This is followed by the Eggeweg, which changes from the Teutoburg Forest to the back of the Eggegebirge. In the northeastern foothills of the Sauerland, the route ends in the town of Marsberg.

Almost the entire course of the Hermannshöhen runs through the nature reserve area. From Ibbenbüren to the gates of Bielefeld through the TERRA.vita nature park , then through the Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge nature park .

Marking in the area

The Hermannsweg has always been marked with a white H, the Eggeweg with an X. The two independent hiking trails have been marked in recent years by the hiking clubs under the umbrella term of the Hermannshöhen. At crossroads and access roads, there are signposts with kilometers to the nearest places and accommodation.

Localities

The Hermannshöhen run through the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, along the localities (from west to south):

Quality hiking

With certifications from the German Hiking Association, the hiking project primarily ensures the quality of experience. The 70 km long Eggeweg was certified in 2004 as the first "Quality Trail Wanderable Germany" and in 2008 it was awarded again.

Transport links

The Hermannshöhen can at least be reached in large parts by public transport. In particular the "Haller Willem" from Bielefeld to Osnabrück, the "OstWestfalen-Bahn" from Herford to Paderborn and the "Lipperländer" from Bielefeld to Lemgo offer some good connections. Direct access roads to the Kammweg are marked from the adjacent locations.
