Hero Wanted - heroes do not need a law is an American action film from the year 2008 . Directed by Brian Smrz and written by Chad Law and Evan Law .

Garbage man Liam Case loses his wife and unborn child in a car accident. The grieving widower no longer sees any meaning in his life. One day he witnessed a traffic accident and saved a child from a burning car. Henceforth he is celebrated as a hero.
Several years later he falls in love with the bank clerk Kayla McQueen and stages a robbery on the bank so that he can distinguish himself as a hero and impress her. The coup goes wrong and both he and the bank clerk are life-threateningly injured.
After Case recovers, he learns that bank clerk McQueen survived the robbery and fell into a coma . He begins a campaign of revenge against his accomplices Derek, Skinner McGraw and Lynch McGraw. He gets help from Cosmo Jackson, who served with his now dead father in the Vietnam War.
Reviews
David Nusair wrote on Reel Film Reviews that Hero Wanted was "slightly better" than comparable films, but still remained " just another ineffective direct-to-video action film " . The debut director subordinated all aspects of the action - from editing to dialogues that are so unconvincing that you roll your eyes ( "eye-rollingly unconvincing dialogue" ). The film offers no support for the talented actors Cuba Gooding junior, Ray Liotta and Jean Smart.

The film was shot in Sofia in April and May 2007 . Its production amounted to an estimated 6 million US dollars . The film was released in selected US cinemas on March 28, 2008 before it was released on DVD on April 29, 2008. In most countries - such as Greece , Great Britain and Australia - it was released directly on DVD. In January 2012 the film was reprinted by 3L-Films and brought to the German market under the title "RAGE - Merciless Retaliation" .
