The Catholic parish church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Klettwitz , which has been part of the Schipkau community since 2001 , dates back to 1909. It is a listed building . From November 1, 2006 to September 27, 2015, it was the parish church of the parish of the same name with the subsidiary churches Heiliges Kreuz in Schwarzheide and St. Marien in Ruhland . On September 27, 2015, the parishes of Klettwitz and Senftenberg were merged and St. Peter and Paul Senftenberg became the parish church of the same name.

history

With the influx of Catholic workers from Poland, Upper Silesia and the Rhineland after the middle of the 19th century, the need for Catholic worship in Klettwitz increased. Initially, temporary rooms were used. Church records have existed since 1907. The church was built in 1909 and consecrated on October 24, 1909 after only four months of construction. Until 1945 the service was held in German and Polish.

architecture

The Herz-Jesu -Kirche is a simple neo-baroque brick church with a portal and a tower-like, hood-topped roof turret . The white-framed, round-arched interior without architectural decoration is extended with openwork pillars to form a three-aisle structure and has a barrel vault . The round, closed chancel is separated by a choir arch.

Furnishing

Works of art

The figure of Mary was created around 1920. The chancel was redesigned in 1965 by the architect Wolfram Starke . The original colors of the stained glass windows from 1930 , the baptismal font from 1909 and the Way of the Cross were restored in 1996.

The Way of the Cross was restored in 1996 and renewed with the original painting. There are also four saints in the church, Barbara , Anna and the apostles Peter and Paul .

Lecture cross and the Lamb of God in the entrance area were created by Friedrich Schötschel from Biesenthal .

organ

Voigt organ with a new prospectus

The existing instrument is the first at this point. Arno Voigt , organ building company from Bad Liebenwerda , built his Opus 26 here in 1913 with twelve stops (eight sounding ones) and with a pneumatic game and stop action , distributed over two manuals and pedal . Like most of the organs still in existence in the region, the disposition is shaped by the late Romantic period.

As in many other places, the prospect pipes were transported away during the Second World War and melted down for armament purposes. Extensive restoration work was carried out from 2008 to the beginning of 2014 to restore the organ to its original condition. Since all the documents are still preserved, the organ building company Mitteldeutscher Orgelbau A. Voigt from Bad Liebenwerda was able to restore the original organ. It was inaugurated again in a festive service on April 27, 2014. Among other things, the Minister of Science of the State of Brandenburg Sabine Kunst and Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke took part in the service.

Since then, the church and its organ have formed a cultural center where concerts are held almost monthly.

Bells

In 1909, when the church was being built, two bronze bells were housed in the roof turret. The big bell was melted down for armament purposes as early as the First World War . The congregation was able to cast a new big bell shortly afterwards, so that two bells rang again. Towards the end of the Second World War , this bell also had to be returned. The little bell, however, was hidden on a transport under coals and brought to Schwarzheide to the Catholic Church of the Holy Cross , where it still rings daily for prayer and Holy Mass.

In 1948/1949 a completely new bell was commissioned from Schilling & Lattermann in Apolda . The three chilled iron bells were consecrated in 1949. A mechanical clockwork strikes the middle bell every quarter of an hour and the big one every hour. The clockwork is wound manually once a week and all three bells are rung by hand with ropes.
