Hewingsen is a district of the municipality of Möhnesee in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

Hewingsen is located on the foothills of the hair strand , which extends here in a northerly direction into the Soester Börde . To the east, Hewingsen borders on Meiningserbauer, in the south on Theiningsen, in the south-west on Ense-Bittingen and Ense-Bilme and in the north on Soest-Epsingsen. The closest medium-sized center is the district town of Soest with around 50,000 inhabitants.

history

Hewingsen was first mentioned in a document in 1072. In the 13th century there was a von Hevinchusen family . Hewingsen has been part of the Electorate of Cologne since the Middle Ages . It was administered from Drüggelte, even when the place fell to the Grand Duchy of Hesse. The mayor district of Hewingsen, which belonged to the office of Körbecke, had existed since 1808. In 1815 the office of Körbecke fell to the Kingdom of Prussia and the Soest district . The community of Hewingsen was initially headed by a mayor, who was later called the mayor of the community and from 1945 mayor. Hewingsen has been part of the Möhnesee community since July 1, 1969. At the same time there has been a mayor again since that time. In 2017 the village took first place in the municipal competition "Our village has a future".

In Hewingsen there is a Catholic chapel, the “St. Marien "means. A chapel association had already been founded in 1904. However, it was not until October 23, 1947 that the construction of a chapel began. After just over a year, on December 12, 1948, the new building was inaugurated. The chapel received a new organ on August 8, 1999. Finally, on December 22, 2001, the building received a new ambo and a new sideboard.
