The Hildegardis-Gymnasium Kempten is a state high school in the Bavarian city of Kempten (Allgäu) . At the facility, which was founded in 1874 as a purely girls' school , around 1,100 students are taught by 73 full-time teachers (school year 2017/18). In addition to the social science orientation, the linguistic and artistic aspect is also in the foreground in the school profile .
history
In October 1874, the “Private Municipal Parity Higher Girls School ” was founded in Kempten in the building of today's Suttschule (elementary school), which comprised three grades. In 1892 the facility was moved to the Neubronner house in the old town. It has been under municipal management since 1904 and existed from 1911 to 1925 as the “Municipal Higher Girls School” with six grades. In 1909 parts of the school were housed in the Wittelsbach School . Ten years later the school moved to the Lyceum in the city park . In 1925 it was divided into a girls 'college and a separate girls' middle school . Under National Socialist rule , the lyceum was converted into a high school before it was closed by the Americans after the end of the war . However, it was reopened in 1946 as the “municipal girls' high school ”, which was converted back into a grammar school in 1951 .
In the years 1961 to 1965, the first construction phase for a new, modern school building with a sports hall built in 1964 was carried out. The Kempten architect Sepp Zwerch provided the plans . During this time the school was named Hildegardis School in honor of Queen Hildegard , the wife of Charlemagne . Hildegard is in Kempten by their rich gifts to the Imperial Abbey of Kempten as founder revered.
From 1967 to the nationalization of the grammar school in 1971, the school building was expanded. The school that had previously been established for girls has also been accepting boys since 1971. Today, the proportion of boys in the student body is around 30 percent. In 2003 a new building for the grammar school was inaugurated; In 2007 the extension to the sports hall followed and in 2009 a new sports facility was completed. A makeshift building, around 40 years old, was demolished in the 2017/18 school year and is to be replaced by a new break hall.
