Hima Adamou (* 1933 or 1936 in Dosso ; † July 28, 2017 in Niamey ; called Dama-Dama ) was a Nigerien journalist , actor and playwright .

Life

Hima Adamou attended primary school in his native Dosso from 1942 to 1949 and then a school in Tahoua until 1953 . From 1954 to 1957 he worked as a secretary in the then still French military administration in the Nigerien capital Niamey. In 1958 he became secretary to the head of the Niamey State Treasury.

When the country's first radio program was launched in 1958 with Radio Niger in Niamey, Hima Adamou became its first employee from Niger. There he worked as a moderator, as head of the production department and later as program director. In 1962 he introduced radio broadcasts of plays, initially in the Zarma language from Niamey, and soon also in the Hausa language from Zinder . For this purpose, the station had its own theater ensembles in both cities. In Zinder, the actress Hadjia Délou was one of its most famous members. In Niamey, Hima Adamou was one of them himself, who not only produced the broadcasts, but also played and wrote pieces himself. The theater broadcasts were extremely successful. Later, thanks to the broadcasts of national celebrities, such as Yazi Dogo and Oumarou Neïno from the troupe of the Center Culturel Oumarou Ganda , also became actors from other theater groups . Hima Adamous' first play in 1962, La Congolaise , was about a mechanic who had become a drinker. By 1978 Adamou had created an estimated 700 dramas for radio broadcasts.

In 1965 he was the main initiator in founding the Nigerien Red Cross . From 1966 to 1967 he trained for audiovisual productions in Paris . Radio Niger went on in 1967 in the newly founded state broadcasting corporation Office de Radiodiffusion et Télévision du Niger (ORTN). Adamou became deputy general director of ORTN. At the end of the 1960s, he also worked for the scholar Boubou Hama , who was then chairman of the ruling Nigerien Progress Party . He always had to supply Boubou Hama with new Zarma proverbs and traditional stories. After the introduction of a regular television program, the theater broadcast was transferred from radio to television and was also shown there with great success. For this Adamou created around twenty plays. In the leadership of the ORTN, he became program director for television. For a while he was Niger's consul in Kano in neighboring Nigeria .

Hima Adamou became a "warlord" at the court of the Sultan of Dosso in May 2017 with the title Zaroumeye . His father had already held this position. He died a few months later in Niamey.
