The Hochsalwand is a mountain peak northeast of the Wendelstein high above the village of Brannenburg . It belongs to the Mangfall Mountains in the Bavarian Prealps and is 1625 m high. On nice days, the summit cross offers a good view of Rosenheim , the Inn valley , the Chiemsee , the Simssee and the neighboring Chiemgau Alps and the Kaiser Mountains . In contrast to the Wendelstein, the Hochsalwand is not so heavily frequented, there are several options for ascent. However, the ascent routes listed below require surefootedness , a head for heights and a good physical condition, despite the markings and several easy climbing points with wire rope safety devices . Only the way from the Reindleralm to the summit is easier, does not require climbing or safety devices and therefore does not require a head for heights, but does require surefootedness.

  • From Aich near Brannenburg via the managed huts Schlipfgrubalm and Schuhbräualm as well as the 1422 m high Rampoldplatte in 3.5 hours to the Hochsalwand.
  • From Sankt Margarethen near Brannenburg via the managed Breitenberghütte and the Lechneralm to the summit in 3 hours.
  • From the northwest from the Jenbachtal, which can be reached via a road from Bad Feilnbach , either via the Schuhbräualm and the Rampoldplatte or via the Wirtsalm and the Reindleralm to the summit in 3 hours each.
  • From the Mitteralm at an altitude of 1200 m (with a year-round Alpine Club Hut Mitteralm with overnight accommodation), which can be easily reached by cog railway from Brannenburg, via the Reindleralm to the summit in just under 2 hours. This is the shortest, fastest and least strenuous route to the Hochsalwand.
