The FFH area Hochschwarzwald around Hinterzarten is a protected area (protected area identifier DE-8114-341) in the German state of Baden-Württemberg that was registered in 2005 by the Freiburg Regional Council according to Directive 92/43 / EEC (Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive) . With the ordinance of the regional council of Freiburg on the definition of areas of Community importance of October 25, 2018, the area was determined. On February 1, 2020, a comprehensive management plan (MaP) was published as an official plan for the area. This plan describes in detail the conservation and development goals of the Natura 2000 site and the measures to achieve these goals.

The 1,826.7 hectares large protected area is part of the natural environment 155- Black Forest within the geography main unit 15 Black Forest .

It consists of numerous sub-areas and is located on the markings of seven cities and municipalities:

Description and purpose of protection

These are erosion valleys with extensive rubble heaps and rock formations as well as near-natural ravine forests, plateaus shaped by the Worm Ice Age with various bog, species-rich poor meadows and extensive near-natural forests.

Contiguous protected areas

The FFH area consists of numerous sub-areas, it is partly in the bird sanctuary in the southern Black Forest and overlaps with several landscape protection areas . In addition, it is completely in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park , part of the area near Oberried is also in the Black Forest biosphere area .
