High Büchen is a village and nördlichster district of the borough Delligsen in the district of Holzminden , Lower Saxony . The district is located in a valley between the Reuberg ridge and the Hils low mountain range .

history

The name of the village comes from three tall beeches that once stood on the highest elevation of the village interior. Later in the Middle Ages the name was changed from Hohenbuchen to Hohenbüchen. In the period around 1500 there was a castle in Hohenbüchen. It was part of the castle triangle with Brunkensen and the Hohe Warte. Today there are only remains underground.

The Hilsmulde settlements, including Hohenbüchen in the following, have been part of the Hildesheim diocese since it was founded in 815 . In the 12th century, Hildesheim tradition includes the noble family of the noble lords of Delligsen, who called themselves von Hohenbüchen (de Alta Fago) from 1209 and built a castle there as the center of their rule. This Hohenbüchen rule included the western parts of the Hilsmulde. With the extinction of this family in the 13th century, the Hohenbüchen rule fell to the Hildesheim noble family von Rössing and through purchase in the middle of the 14th century to the noblemen of Homburg near Stadtoldendorf . The noblemen of Homburg also owned the Greene Bailiwick , to which the eastern part of the Hilsmulde settlements were counted.

Since 1497 the Hohenbüchen rule and the Greene bailiwick finally belonged to the Duchy of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and - since 1918 - to the Free State of Braunschweig.

With the Reformation in the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel in 1568/69 Hohenbüchen became Evangelical-Lutheran. In the early modern period, the Hilsmulde villages were administered from the Greene office until the districts and district courts were set up in the 19th century. Hohenbüchen belonged to the Holzminden district. On April 1, 1974, Hohenbüchen was assigned to the Delligsen area as a previously independent municipality.

coat of arms

Hohenbüchen 2018-07-24.png

The shield coat of arms shows two golden beeches on three mountains. These flank the main tower of the former castle in the middle of the coat of arms on a light red coat of arms. These coat of arms elements go back to the original name of the place as "Hohenbuchen" in its history. The original is always at the entrance to Hohenbüchen, made with wood carving.
