geography
Holtendorf is located directly east of Markersdorf in Upper Lusatia . The federal road 6 leads through the village to Görlitz or Löbau . The Dresden – Görlitz railway line runs south of Holtendorf .

history
The Waldhufendorf owned a manor around 1562 . In 1777 the manors of Oberholtendorf and Niederholtendorf each exercised part of the manorial rule . In 1875 Holtendorf was part of the Görlitz district. The size of the district was 487 hectares in 1885 . Holtendorf was parish to Markersdorf. In 1947 the place became part of the Weißwasser-Görlitz district and in 1952 of the Görlitz district . The municipality of Holtendorf lost its independence in 1974 when it was incorporated into Markersdorf. In the same year, the district of Görlitz became part of the Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia District , which became part of the new district of Görlitz on August 1, 2008 through the district reform of Saxony in 2008 .
