Holy Flying Circus is a 2011 British television film about the controversy that sparked the 1979 release of Brian's Life . It was first broadcast on BBC Four on October 19, 2011 . The title refers to the television series Monty Python's Flying Circus .
action
Holy Flying Circus deals with the protests of religious (especially Christian ) groups against the comedian group Monty Python , which critics accused of blasphemy after the release of their movie The Life of Brian . The focus is on the background to the famous television debate that John Cleese and Michael Palin had on November 9, 1979 on Friday Night Saturday Morning with Mervyn Stockwood , then Bishop of Southwark , and Christian author Malcolm Muggeridge . Parts of this discussion were reenacted for the film. Overall, the film is not a factual report, but mixes real events with fictitious and sometimes - based on the style of the Monty Python productions - absurd subplots in which God and Jesus also play a role.
Reviews
Holy Flying Circus received mostly positive reviews. The sometimes erratic and incoherent action was rated as negative. Even so, the humorous script was highlighted. The performers of the actors were unanimously praised, especially Darren Boyd's performance as John Cleese .
